Even a ve ry q u i c k glance at the figures above will i n d icate to our readers that the To ro nt o Marine H i s t o r i c a l Soc i e t y ' s d i s b u r s e m e n t s far e x c ee de d income du ri ng the 1990-1991 season, and our bank balance was cut almost in half. The ef fec ts of i n f l a t i o n con t i n u e d to increase our expenses, and the de cr ea se in bank interest rates and the exchange on the U . S. Dollar also a d v e r s e l y a f f e c t e d our income. Of p a r t i c u l a r note was a large increase in postage cost, and also in the e xpe nse (Pronto Rep r o d u c t i o n s ) of printing "Scanner". Of course, the addition of the Goods & Se rvices Tax to these items as of 1st J a n u a r y p r o d uc ed a large part of the increase. Interestingly, the expense of p r i n t i n g our covers and ph ot o p a g e s (Minett Ph otographic) d e c r e a s e d by almost 11%. It is ob vio us that additional income is n e c e s s a r y to offset mounting expenses, and this is wh y your E x ecutive Co m m i t t e e had no choice but to put in place a m aj or in crease in m e m b e r s h i p fees for the 1 9 9 1-1992 season.
