" Passe n g e r s who had arrived at G o d erich aboard KALOO L A H were able to take a d v antage of another steamer service across the lake to Port A u s t i n and to other points along the "Great V a l l e y of the Saginaw". The propellor SCIOTA called at G o d e r i c h on Tuesdays and Fridays. On Tuesday, July 3, 1860, the residents of Southampton, Port Elgin and Kincardne were given an o p p o r t u n i t y to p articipate in the Fourth of July c e l e b rations in Detroit. The f o llowing a d v e rtisement a p p e a r e d in the "Goderich H u r o n Signal" for some weeks prior to the excursion. "Fourth of July Grand Pleasure E x c u r s i o n to Detroit!! The Splendid Upper Cabin, Side-wheel, Low Pressure Steamer K A L O O L A H (Cap tain Duncan Rowan), Will give a Grand Pleasure E x c u r s i o n to the inhabi t a n t s of Goderich, Kincardine, S outhampton and s u r r o u nding country, in order to give them an o p p o r t u n i t y of p a r t i c i p a t i n g in the ce l e b r a t i o n of that great A m e r i c a n National Holiday. The at t r a c t i o n s of the day in Detroit are expec t e d to be of a very superior character, as very extensive p r e p a r a t i o n s are being made for the celebration. "The K A L O O L A H has superior Cabin and State Room ac c o m m o d a t i o n s for a large number of Pass engers, and Pleasure seekers will find this E x c u r s i o n to be m u c h prefe r a b l e - at the pres ent season espec i a l l y - to land travel, from the entire absence of dust, &c. In addition, there are the e x h i l a r a t i n g breezes of Lake Huron, a comfortable night's rest, and a view of the River and Lake St. Clair, and Detr oit River. "She will leave G o d e r i c h on T u e s d a y the third of July at 8 o'clock, evening, landing p a s s e n g e r s &c., at Sarnia and Port Huron, where she will r e m a i n u n til daylight, and proc e e d to Detroit direct, where she will arrive in good time to witn e s s the sports of the day. Returning she will leave Detroit at 2 P. M. on the 5th calling at Sarnia and Port H u r o n on the up trip, and will arrive at G o d e r i c h shortly after mid-day. In the spring of 1861, KALOOLAH, which by this time h a d been given C a n a d i a n official number 33525, was brou ght back to the G o d e r i c h to Saugeen route. However, there were a few changes. Capt. Duncan Rowan had r e l i n q u i s h e d his command to Capt. C. McIntosh. Captain Rowan was now in command of the s t e a m er V A L L E Y CITY, w h i c h was running in direct opposition to KALOOLAH. Calls at Port Head and Baie du-Dard were dropped from K A L O O L A H ' s schedule in 1862. P a ssengers w i s h i n g to board K A L O O L A H at Port Elgin had to do so on the upbo u n d trip, for she did not call there when r e t u r n i n g to Goderich. There was also a special trip just to K i ncardine on Thursdays, arriving there at 7: 00 a. m., and d e p a r t i n g at 1 2 : 00 noon. The last trip of the week to Saugeen was now on S a t u r d a y instead of Friday. The boat was sc h e d u l e d to depart for Sarnia from G o d e r i c h at 1 0 : 00 p. m. on Mondays and at 8 : 00 p. m. on Thursdays.
