Marine Accidents

Marine Accidents.--The severe storm last week caused a number of marine accidents on Green Bay. The propeller City of Madison, belonging to F. B. Gardner, went ashore at the "Door." Tug May foundered on the west shore of Green Bay, with four persons on board. The schooner Mary Collins went ashore near Rusharoo Point. The schooner Boaz was driven over the Whale's Back reef and had to cut away her masts The schooner Richard Mott was blown ashore at Oconto but was released without any damage. The schooner Young America started from Green Bay for Buffalo, split her mainsail, twisted her rudder head and had to be towed back to Green Bay. The brig Helfenstein, of this place, was thrown on her beam ends, the mainsail was blown to pieces and her chain parted, losing the large anchor overboard. A lumber scow was water-logged at the straight cut at Green Bay. The schooner H. G. Hartzel, Capt. Bogart, went on the reef at Bailey's harbor, last Monday night. She was got off but leaks so badly that a steam pump will have to be sent to her to keep her clear. Further reports will doubtless bring intelligence of further disasters.

Later.-Since the above was in type we learn that the tug May was driven ashore on Chamber's Island. All hands were saved.

Menominee.--The Herald says the Peshtigo barges brought in fifty men who are going to work in the woods for $12 per month. --The Cedar River tug May is supposed to have foundered during the terrible storm a week ago Monday, nothing having been heard of her since that time; she had four persons on board at the time who are also supposed to be lost. ..

Wrecked.--The schooner Denmark, which has been in this port several times this season, was driven ashore in Hedge Hog Harbor, near the "Door," and is a total wreck. As she was an old vessel there was probably no insurance on her.
