Wilson, Treasurer 8th September, 1997 * * * Editor's Note to the Financial Statement: It gives us pleasure to present for the members' inspection the financial report for the fiscal year 1996-1997 for the Toronto Marine Historical So ciety. It will be noted that the bank balance is considerably greater than it was at the same time last year. Accordingly, we need not consider any in crease in membership fees at this time. Although our income from regular sources was down slightly from the prior year, we managed to achieve a saving in the cost of producing and distribu ting "Scanner". The efforts of members who delivered "Scanner" to others in their local areas has been a major factor in this saving. The greatest impact on our financial position, however, was achieved through our continuing sale of materials donated by members for this purpose, and particularly the silent auction which we held in the spring. That one event alone guaranteed a financially successful year and we hope to have another such sale in the future should suitable sale materials become available. We trust that the members will find this financial statement satisfactory. As always, we extend sincere thanks to Bill Wilson for tending to the books of the Society for another year, as well as for receiving memberships and for serving as menu arranger for the Annual Dinner Meeting.
