VOL. XXX - NO. 9 MID-SUMMER 1998 MEETINGS Friday, October 2nd - 8: 00 p. m. at the old Museum site. Annual Autumn Slide Night. Or whatever...! * * * * * * * THE EDITOR'S LOGBOOK The May Dinner Meeting, held as usual aboard JADRAN, was a huge success, the sell-out crowd enjoying a delightful meal and an even more delightful programme presented by the Rev. Chuck Beaton. With a few excellent slides shown afterwards, Chuck spoke of what it was like to grow up in a Great Lakes captain's family. He related many humourous incidents, but what really held the audience spellbound was his description of his father's heroic deeds the day his beautiful steamer HAMONIC was destroyed by a fire originating ashore, and the effects of this event on his father and the whole family. We extend sincere thanks to Chuck, wish him well in his retirement, and hope that he will return to speak to T. M. H. S. again at a future date. Enclosed with this issue is our Annual Membership Renewal Notice. Please take a moment to read it and return the coupon, with your remittance, to our Chief Purser. Fees remain at $25. 00 per annum.
