12. GREAT LAKE MEMORIES GREATER BUFFALO and GREATER DETROIT, built 1923-1924, were the largest sidewheel passenger ships in the world when they entered service for the Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Company. From a souvenir booklet published at the time of her entry into service, here is a striking view of GREATER BUFFALO'S foredeck and bridge structure. Sadly, her career was short. She was cut down to the aircraft training carrier U. S. S. SABLE in W. W. II and scrapped after the war.
