Parties gathering driftwood near Snake Creek, in the town of Mexico Friday found a chair stamped, “Schr. W.I. Preston.”
The schooner Preston hailed from Oswego and was wrecked on Simcoe Island near Kingston, fifteen or sixteen years ago. She was in command of Captain Frank McGuire, and James Callahan, of Oswego, was a member of the crew. The crew escaped and a large portion of the schooner’s fittings were saved, but the hull was left to go to pieces. It is not known how long this chair found on the beach at Texas had been floating about the lake.
