____

Considerable activity prevails, at the present time, at the Marine Railway. Six of the steamers of the Northern Transportation Company are there undergoing the refitting process which is annually given to the boats of the line.

The Young America, New York and Lowell, all comparatively new, have been provided with Andrews' Oscillating Donkey engines, for the purpose of unloading heavy freight. They have also been provided with new propeller wheels of a recent pattern, which it is claimed will increase the speed of the vessels at least a mile an hour.

The Prairie State and Wisconsin have been upon the Railway all winter, and have received extensive replanking and repairs. The Akron is now on the Railway for the purpose of receiving one of the new wheels. All of these steamers have been painted inside and out, and look as "neat as pins." Some are ready to sail, and will leave for the West during the coming week.

Upon the stocks in the Yard is a new steamer already in a forward state. As soon as the repairs of steamers mentioned above are fully completed, she will be pushed forward so as to take her place in the line the present season.

There is also on the stocks a small propeller steamer for Capt. C.A. Payne, of this village. She is designed for yachting and tugging purposes. She is about sixty feet keel, fourteen feet beam, and will have a draft of five feet.

At the Railway dock is the little steamer R.J. Atcheson. During the winter she has been considerable changed, and we understand will be used the present season for towing.
