Northern Transportation-- This company is as closely identified with the prosperity of Oswego as any business or branch of business in the country. It is in fact a part of us, and we should get on poorly indeed were it to be taken away. Consequently it deserves mention at our hands and patronage from our readers. Thirteen first class propellers now comprise the line, which runs daily between this city and Lake Erie and tri-weekly to Lake Michigan, making all the intermediate ports on the route. As a company, its President and managers are well known. For the current season every facility and convenience is offered to the public and the line will command the Western travel of Central New York and of the State. As a pleasure tour, it is unequaled, and tourists hold it in the highest esteem. We give a list of boats that will compose the line this season, and their captain;

Akron, Capt. R. Smith; Buckeye, Capt. G.N. Spencer; Cleveland, Capt. W.H. Williams; City of Boston, Capt. E. Chapman; City of New York, Capt. C.J. Chadwick; Empire, Capt. A. Reed; Granite State, Capt. Ira Bishop; Michigan, Capt. Wm. Rollo; Maine, Capt. R. Richardson; Ontario, Capt. A. Shaver; Prairie State, Capt. S. Knapp; Wisconsin, Capt. W.E. Williams; Young America, Capt. D. Davis.

The Captains of these boats are well known to travelers—many of them personally to our citizens. Their being in the employ of the Northern Transportation Company is their meed of praise, and the best proof of their efficiency as seamen. Gentlemanly and obliging to passengers, they have gained their confidence of all lake travelers. To make personal mention of any one, would be to disparage the rest. For the season just opening the company have made some important changes from last year. They now run  their own canal line between Oswego and New York, thereby gaining facilities which they have not possessed before. The dock adjoining that of the Ontario Steamboat Company has been purchase at a large expense and is now undergoing extensive repairs. So far as dockage is concerned the Northern Transportation Company will stand par excellence. A visit  to their new wharf will give one an idea of how perfect it is to be made, before the rush of boats shall commence. If the Company have possessed superior facilities in former years, they certainly intend to keep up to the old stand point.

Five of the propellers of this line viz:  the Cleveland, Akron, Michigan, New York and Empire have wintered in our harbor. This spring they have undergone the most thorough repairs. Everything for the comfort and convenience of passengers have been added to the already well furnished cabins and staterooms. We have been shown over several of them, by their obliging Captains and confess ourselves surprised at the perfect rejuvenation they have undergone. They will enter upon their summer cruise with new suits and tidy ones. Several of them have already gone to Ogdensburg in readiness for the opening of the daily trips, and the New York, Capt. Chadwick will sail on Saturday to join them.

Mr. Chas. Allison, the agent in this city is now entering upon his third season among us. During that period he has won much respect and esteem. The competent business man and thorough gentleman, he is eminently fitted to represent the company here.

But we must not forget the Passenger agent, Capt. Thomas Bryan. Of all men he is just the one to attend to his particular duties. Everybody who travels the lakes knows him. If you go west this summer do not fail to go by the Northern Transportation company line of propellers and let Capt. Bryan provide you a stateroom.
