Several Vessels New to Oswego Harbor Due in Next Few Weeks

With eight ships already listed on the harbor chart board at the Port of Oswego Authority, action in the local harbor appears on a big upswing during the next month and a half. Undoubtedly more ships will be scheduled to load or unload in the same period if the present is any indication.

Starting tomorrows longshoremen will be fairly busy men. The Canada Steamship Lines Ltd. 463-foot Fort Chambly, largest of its fleet to dock here this year for the new calcium chloride movement to Montreal, will load an expected 1,000 tons of the Solvay salt. Its expected time of arrival will not be known until after press time today, according to Joseph Pasco of Pasco Rental Service, which has the stevedoring assignment.

Friday the Pinedale (formerly the George F. Rand) will return to Oswego for the second time this season when it unloads about 10,000 tons of cement clinker at the Port of Oswego's east side terminal to reshipment to Ravena, near Albany, where a new huge cement plant is nearing the completion stage.

Next Tuesday the Fortune Canary of the Hellenic Line is listed to load corn meal. Its cargo amounts and destinations are still not known by Oswego Stevedoring & Trucking Co., William Joyce, general manager, said today. He will have charge of the longshoremen on this ship.

Boiler Tubing New Cargo

On Aug. 15, according to information here, the Flensburg of the Hamburg-American Line is due in from northern Europe with a cargo of boiler tubing, reportedly for a local industrial concern, which had "no comment from this end" when queried today about the movement. The stevedoring assignment had not been confirmed up to press time.

Aug. will find the Ocean Dinney in (but this ship is expected to be replaced on the board by the USS Inces) of the Compass Line (an American concern) to load 800 tons of corn meal for India. Pasco Rental Service has the cargo handling job.

On Aug. 28 the Orient-Middle East Line's Estonia is slated to load 25 tons of corn meal for Hong Kong while on Sept. 6 the Simoa of the State Marine Line will take aboard a huge consignment of 1,090 tons of corn meal for Korea and the Philippines. Oswego Stevedoring & Trucking Co. has the longshoremen assignments for both ships along with the Vari due here Sept. 10 to load 850 tons of corn meal for India. The Vari is also an Orient-Mid-East ship.

According to information here there fare still 90 tons of corn meal scheduled for Macao, 21 tons for Hong Kong and 182 tons for the Philippines still to be assigned to ships via Oswego with possibility of even more corn meal to be moved later on this season through Oswego's POA terminals.

Only the Pinedale is an old face to Oswego waterfront followers. All the other vessels will be making their maiden appearances here to give local spectators plenty of new ships to see in the next 45 days.
