Washington Island. To the Editor of the Democrat: Detroit Harbor, Sept. 29th—The scow Gurthrie (sic) of Milwaukee, ran on Fishermans Shoal during the night of the 26th. She is loaded with bark, which is owned by T. Platner (sic) of Milwaukee. Fishermans Shoal is about four miles east of the Island. It is here where the Newsboy and Blazing Star were wrecked. The Newsboy has gone to pieces, but the Blazing Star remains as solid as ever. The Gurthrie (sic) is going to pieces and will be a total wreck. The crew was taken off by the fishing tug Truscott it was a fortunate thing that the weather was no colder or the crew might have suffered all the hardships of the Newsboy's crew three years ago. The marine interests demands a life-saving station at a convenient point for such disasters and in looking over the ground perhaps no better location could be had than the south end of Detroit Island. It is bound to come sooner or later and the best way to get one is to put Lyman E. Barns in for our next congressman.
