THE ABANDONED SCHOONER ALOAH
First Mate Woolner of Ossifrage, Put in Charge -- Was a Lucky Find

First Mate Woolner, of the Ossifrage was put in charge of the abandoned schooner Aloha, of the wrecked Herbard's fleet which the former boat picked up off Montreal Island on Wednesday. The crew which was also picked up by the Ossifrage afterwards, was put back on board at their own request, although other men from the Ossifrage went aboard to man the schooner. The crew was found on the shore some distance west of Copper Mine Point where the Hebard was wrecked and it was a lucky thing for them that the Ossifrage come along when she did for they not expecting to see a boat in that part of the lake at this season were just about to start off on foot in search of some habitation. In abandoning the schooner the crew was perfectly justified for it was in a perfectly helpless condition. The sail was gone the anchors were and the steam engine could not be worked to draw them in and if another gale occurred no other fate awaited those on board than to be driven ashore and probably drowned without a chance to escape.

The schooner was sighted by the Ossifrage near Montreal Island. The tug General was only about three miles distant but being lower in the water her captain probably could not see it. The Ossifrage towed the schooner into Gargantua Harbor and immediately upon her arrival at Michipicoten the facts were telegraphed to Superintendent W. E. Barr here and the Philadelphia was dispatched to bring her into port. The discovery was a lucky one for the crew of the Ossifrage.
