J* The Barry Line was founded at Chicago in the middle Eighties by Captain Miles Barry and his five brothers* They were great grandsons pf Commodore John Barry, the U* S. Navy hero of the War of Independence* This line operated in the Lake Michigan area generally, with a brief excursion into Lake Huron in the early Nineties in partnership with Detroit*s Drummond Line* All of the vessels were purchased and were wooden vessels unless otherwise noted* Besides the Barry Transportation Company, the six brothers also controlled the Barry Tug Line, which operated tugs at Chicago Harbor for ten or more vears before becoming part of the Great Lakes Towing Company in lo99* The Barry Trucking Lines, operating today in Illinois and Wisconsin, are owned by the sons of Captain Barry and his brothers* 1* Barry Transportation Company: (Freight and Passenger ships) Str* BADGER STATE (US.2111), 1862 Buffalo, 213 x 33* Burned at Marine City, 12-6-09* Str* MABEL BRADSHAW (US.92096),1889 Benton Harbor, 135 x 26.
