Telescope 197 A big cut-up on the lower St. Clair River is hydraulic dredge SHUNIAH engaged in scooping out the new Southeast Cut-off channel. It is part of the multi-mi11ion dollar Great Lakes connecting channels project started by the United States Army Engineers in 1957. Aerial photograph looking dovmstream on the Southeast Bend Cutoff channel, 700 feet wide, five miles long and 27 feet deep, which will replace the hazardous Southeast Bend channel.
