Notes
Photograph of the Ferd Laabs' Sons grist mill which was moved on the barges Lucy and Eveready, and pushed by the tug, Ajax from Winneconne, Wis. to Oshkosh, Wis. on July 4th, 1879. Charles S.Neff was a boy of 9 yrs. and rode in the Ajax with his father, Capt. Sam Neff, who was in charge of the moving. People lined the banks to watch. Capt. Neff had to give a bond of performance. The mill stood for many years after, and was used as a mill & grinder, even after the two top floors burned off. See the drawing of the mill; also Ajax the tug.
