The S. Neff, built 1880-81, Oshkosh,Wis. for Capt. Sam Neff and sold 1887 to Lawrence, Spear & Packard. The vessel was 140 feet in length over all, 30 feet in width and 6 1/2 in depth. Characteristic of the numerous lumber carriers that became familiar sights on the Great Lakes during the lumber boom; burned Pelee Island, Lake Erie, Sept. 26, 1899. Complete account of the building of this boat can be found in the reminiscences of Charles S.Neff; other photos; a drawing. Listed Inland Lloyds Vessel Register, 1893; other compilations.
