The Str. Hilton was built in E. Saginaw, Mich., in 1867; 166 gross tons; 110 feet long, 27 feet wide x 8 deep. Like many ships of the era, it used both sail and steam. Listed in Beers, History of the Great Lakes, Vol. l, p. 837; Inland Lloyds Vessel Register, 1893, and in various issues of the Ship Masters' Assoc. Directory, 1903, 1909, etc. Listed for 1914 as owner was the John Schroeder Lumber Co., Milwaukee, Wis.
