Old side-Wheeler - passenger & freight; listed among the "old timers" which ran on the lakes and rivers near Oshkosh, Wis. The Menominee, of Neff & Co. (Abel Neff & Alonzo Leach) was taken, shortly before the Civil War, through the Fox river to Portage, Wis., thence down the Wisconsin river to the Mississippi. The Menominee was sold for $6,000 to tow a barge on the river. The other Neff ships were likewise sold. Sam Neff went with his uncle, Abel Neff, to the Mississippi.
