Notes
The A. Neff, or Abel Neff, carrying freight and passengers on Lake Winnebago, was a familiar sight in the early 1870s in and around Oshkosh, and the Wolf river. The vessel was about 100 feet long, with twin wheels and a 10 x 12 engine. It also ran between Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay. It later went to the Soo and was lost on Edward Island, Lake Superior, in 1886. The vessel was named after Abel Neff, one of the early settlers in Oshkosh. Other material in the Oshkosh Public Library, Oshkosh, Wis. and in Hist. of the Great Lakes, Vol. 1, p. 865.
