Old schooner -widely known. The Our Son was the last schooner to sail the Great Lakes. Built in 1875 at Black River (Lorain) Ohio, and of 720 gross tons; 182 feet long and 35 feet wide. The Our Son was lost off Frankfort, Mich. during a gale on Sept. 26, 1930. She had been used as a barge for many years before being re-rigged. Listed in Beers, History of the Great Lakes, Vol. 1, p. 870; also listed Ship Masters' Assoc,. Directory, 1903, p. 102; and Inland Lloyds Vessel Register, 1893, p. 74.
