The wooden schooner, Mabel Wilson, 242 x 39; 1224 gross tons, was built in 1886 at Bay City, Mich. Listed Ship Masters' Assoc. Directory, 1903; Beers, History of the Great Lakes, p. 901. Inland Lloyds Vessel Register, 1893, and in wreck data file, compiled by Harold H. Neff, now in the Milwaukee Public Library. The vessel foundered 28 May 1906, Lake Erie, off Cleveland, Ohio -3/4 mile west of light on west breakwater; 36' water; cargo, iron ore from Escanaba to Cleveland; was being towed by Str. Elphicke; several hundred tons of ore salvaged. Survey officer reported wreck blown up.
