His talk will be based upon an article he has prepared for the Steamship Historical Society's Steamboat Bill. The capsizing "of the excursion steamer Eastland accounted for by far the greatest loss of lives (about 835) of any single Great Lakes shipping accident. PROGRESS REPORT: THE CAMPAIGN , To SAVE THE GOTHIC ROOM, ETC., 1? or THE CITY or DETROIT III Most Institute members now know of our fundraising efforts for purchas- ing a large collection of D&C Navi- gation Company items momentarily available from Cleveland owners. A folder describing this campaign was mailed with the December Telescope and to members of several other or- ganizations as well--over two thous- and mailed, in all. If everyone who received one contributed five dol- lars, our campaign would be success- ful. Neither the Institute, nor the Museum, is in the fundraising busi- ness, generally speaking, but this collection is so rich and the pros- IN THIS ISSUE pect of its being scattered so imminent that we felt the museum must have it. We have had gratify- ing newspaper coverage of the cam- paign.
