TELESCOPE February 27 The "Lakers" of World War Iâ€"Part IX: Lake Hachita to Lake Zaliski This issue concludes the long list of the"Lakers" built in World War I, part of Father Dowling's monumental list of lake- built ocean ships that has been appearing at intervals in Tele- scope for almost two years, now.* This in turn has been a great amplification of Father's original " Laker" list which appeared in Volume Ten of The Detroit Marine Historian (1956 to 1957). For the present series, there remains for future issues of Telescope about 20 "post-lakers;" the engines-aft type ships (about 100 of these"stemwinders'9; and George Ayoub's list of "Canadian Lakers." In this issue's list We have also listed in proper alphabetiCal order the many similar "Lake" names which appeared in List 3, "The Wars," for Telescope of August, 1964. The appropriate data on these ships, mostly"War" class renamed ships originally intended for Britain, will be found in that issue. By the Rev. Edward J. Dowling, S. J.
