JUL/AUG, 1976 THE NATION'S BICENTENNIAL Page 86 MEMBERSHIP NOTES Local members will know it before this reaches them, but the good news must be spread abroad, so for you folks farther removed from the Detroit area, you'll be pleased to know that the museum reopened on June 2, and is assured of remaining open through July and August. And there is more good news. You may already have received a special mail piece from WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY PRESS regarding the INSTITUTE's Bicenten- nial book, "SHips oF THE GREAT Laxes - A PictoriaL History." This is a very fine book of paintings, done specially for us, by member Karl Kuttruff, and it is the kind of publication that deserves to be on every serious Great Lakes' buff's book shelf. If you can get into the museum, buy it there. If not, send for it from WAYNE StaTE Press...but by all means do get it! It is $25.00, and well worth every cent! Ey MEETING NOTICES There is no entertainment meeting in July, and the next get-together will be the InstituTE's Annual Dinner Meeting, to be held of Friday, September 17. At this writing the location is not known. The Harmonie Club, where we have held this meeting for so long has closed. Detroit area members will receive a special announcement on this meeting, and those out of this area may obtain all the information by sending a stamped, self addressed envel- ope to the INSTITUTE offices. Business meetings of the Board of Directors, to which all members are welcomed, will be held at the Dossin Museum on August 27 and October 22 at 8:00 PM. iH CONTENTS Membership notes, meeting notices, etc 86 015° True, No Leeway Fred Hollister 87 The Liberty Ship Sangaetano George Ayoub 95 Canadian Self -Unloaders Skip Gillham 96 Great Lakes and Seaway News Edited by Frederic E..
