The Fairport Group believes the wreck could be resting among chests of gold dating to the early 1800's. They believe the Captain Behrens may have recovered a chest of gold before his ship sank. She was upbound headed for Trois-Riviers with a cargo of cement when she developed propeller problems and she drifted aground. Attempts to free her the next day failed, on November 11 her crew was evacuated when cracks developed in her hull.
