Page 2 MEMBERSHIP NOTES • June 3 - First Saturday Series - Continuous showings from 11am to 4pm on the Wide Screen Projection System. Featured will be A Cruise on the SEE AND BEE which was chartered in 1939 for a cruise on the Detroit River by the Ford Motor Company. This black & white silent film will be followed by Detroit newsreels of the 1920's and 1930's. June 16 thru 18 - Grand Prix on Belle Isle - Dossin Museum will be closed to the public due to limited access. Call first! You can reach the museum at 313-852-4051. June 24 - Presentation and orientation at 1 lam for the Liberty ship JOHN W. BROWN which will be coming to Detroit/Windsor area in July. This will be an orientation session for those who will be going out for the cruise on July 22nd. See July 20-24 for more information. There will be an opportunity to tour the vessel while docked in Windsor (due to low water levels on the River). June 25 - Diamond Jack Tour to Toledo, Ohio - This cruise from Detroit will be a trip from the dock near the Ambassador Bridge to the Maumee River where you will have a walk-thru of the dry dock where the JOEIN W. BROWN is undergoing repair. You will also visit the Toledo Maritime Museum and have lunch in the Toledo area. Call 313-843-7676 for additional information. July 1 - First Saturday Series - Continuous showings from 11am to 4pm on the Wide Screen Projection System. Featured will be the salvage of the Schooner ALVIN CLARK which was lost in 1864 on Green Bay. July 6-9 - Spirit of Detroit Thunderfest presents the APBA Gold Cup - "New Kids on the Course" will tour the museum on Thursday July 6th. Qualifying begins July 6-7 with non-stop competition on July 8th & 9th. July 20-24 - The Liberty ship S.S. JOHN W. BROWN will be docked at Dieppe Park in Windsor and will be open for tours. The July 22nd "Living History Cruise" is, unfortunately, sold out. For additional information about the cost of the tours and available hours contact the Museum at 313-852-4051. July 22 - Detroit River Festival - Antique & Classic Boat Show, Marine Mart , Exhibits, Entertainment -Harbor Hill Marina. For more information or to participate as exhibitor or vendor contact Mary Dillon at 810-790-6144 July 23 - The 40th Anniversary of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum - free admission to the public and a special viewing of the video on the "History of Belle Isle". Coming in September 2000 -- Detroit River Photo Contest - Photos taken in the last 3 years on the Detroit River & tributaries are eligible. So keep us in mind when you are out and about this year.
