GREAT LAKES Dear Great Lakes Maritime Institute member: As you are probably aware, the board of directors of the Great Lakes Maritime Institute recently decided to merge the organization into the Detroit Historical Society, forming a new Maritime Auxiliary Group (MAG). This Group will be dedicated to preserving our region's rich maritime history, while also presenting engaging exhibits, programs and events at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. If you have not yet joined the Detroit Historical Society and the MAG, please know that this is the final issue of Telescope that will be sent to non-MAG members. If you decide not to join the MAG, there is no mechanism for you to continue to receive the Telescope, as GLMI has suspended its operations for the next twelve months. I hope that you will join me and many of your fellow GLMI members in joining the Detroit Historical Society and the MAG. If you need information about how to join, please visit www.detroithistorical.org or call 313-833-1980 to speak with the Society's membership office. As you will see from this issue of Telescope, 2007 should be an excellent year for both the Dossin Great Lakes Museum and the Maritime Auxiliary Group. I hope that you will decide to join us in these efforts! Sincerely, Denne J. Osgood President, Great Lakes Maritime Institute President, Maritime Auxiliary Group CONTENTS • Update on the Dossin Great Lakes Museum Makeover .... SAVE THE DATE!........
