Ed. Mattoon, who went down the lake this morning to examine the fragments of the wreck, reported to have been found by a farmer, returned before noon and reports the he saw what appeared to be the upper part of a vessel’s cabin, broken in pieces, and strewn upon the beach. He brought with him a panel, which probably came from the after part of a cabin.

Several Canadian captains have examined it and are of the opinion that it belonged to the cabin of the schooner Maggie Hunter. If this supposition is correct, the Hunter has probably foundered with all on board.

She left here on Monday night with a cargo of 372 tons of coal for Toronto. She was in command of Captain Nixon.
