Editor Marine Review:--In the Marine Review 2f Dec. 31, 1896; you illustrate a thrust bearing for propeller shafts, credited to the Tron Age. From a perusal of the article one would assume that the Mossberg & Granville Mfg. Co. had made a new discovery. Such, however, is not the case. Except that good hard east iron was used for the disks, the bearing as described with steel conical rollers placed radially in a gun metal cage, with the conical disks to form the thrust bearing and collar, was made at the Morgan Iron Works, New York, for the United States steam sloop of war Seminole at the time the engines for that vessel were being built by them in 1859 and 1860. i R. Pierce; chaplain, Charles W. Black; financial and recording secretary, M. A. Budd; treasurer, Henry Davis; marshal, Harry Maitland; warden, Joh Bradshaw; sentinel, Wm. J. Cowles.
