The Niagara IV, which is being built for Mr. Howard Gould, is to be representative of the extreme high-speed class with great power and consequently limited quarters for owners and guests. The hull will be principally of wood with oak frames, double planking, steel floors and keelson, and steel angles throughout engine and boiler space. She is designed on the mod- ern style of overhanging rounded bow and elliptical stern with flat bottom aft. Forward of the machinery the owner will have a breakfast room with galley adjoining. This compartment will be covered by a trunk housing. Aft of the machinery will be a diameter of cylinders and to in. stroke. Her length over all will be 90 ft.; length on water line 84 ft., beam 10 ft. 6 1n. There will also be shown in a drawing in the next issue of the Review an auxiliary boat of 57 ft. which the company is now 'building. This type of craft has recently been in high favor by yachtsmen who have a fondness for sailing. She is 57 ft. over all, 41 ft. on the water line, 14 ft. beam, 7 ft. 1 in. deep and draws 4 ft. 6 in. of water. She has a lead keel of about 5 tons and will be fitted with a cen- terboard. She makes a very commodious craft, having besides. Yacht Cherokee for Mr. S. H. Vandergrift of Pittsburg, Pa, [Building by the Gas Engine G& Power Co., and Charles L. Seabury & Co.. Consolidated, Morris Heights, N. Y. large saloon with transom seats, toilet and wardrobe. The own- er's quarters forward and aft will be finished in mahogany. 'The balance of the hold, excepting as to the forecastle, will be given to the machinery plant. Her power plant will consist of a Sea- bury water-tube boiler with two stacks. The yacht will be equipped with two triple-expansion engines with cylinders 8, 1234 and 20 in. in diameter with stroke of Io in. Her dimensions are: Length over ail, 110 it.; length on water line, 103 ft. 6 in.; beam, 12 ft.; draught, 4 ft. The speed is guaranteed at 23 miles the forecastle and galley, two large staterooms, a toilet and bath. saloon and-engine room. The motor is one of the gasoline type, cf 14 H. P. capacity, which, it is expected, will drive the boat filles an Hour. < The company is also turning out some especially fine naph- tha launches some of which are illustrated in the accompanying article and some of which will be illustrated in a later issue. !n connection with the steam work the company has orders for a Yacht for Alfred Marshall of New York. This type of craft is now becoming quite popular for-service about New York, principally by business men _ who wish to have quick conveyance by water and be independent of railroads. The company is now building another yacht of the same length but with 14 ft: beam which will give very good ac- commodations. The owner will have a deck house forward and three staterooms, bath room and saloon aft. The yacht, buildiny for Mr. Alfred Marshall of New York, is similar in style and model to the Niagara-and will have a speed of 20 miles for one hour. Her machinery will consist of a water tube boiler and a triple-expansion engine 7, 111% and 17% in. yacht of 103 ft. in length, one of 90 ft. length and two of 65 ft: length in addition to those described and illustrated herewith. _ The Merrill-Stevens Engineering Co., Jacksonville, Fla., is building a substantial houseboat for W. B. Baker of Pittsburg to be christened the Three Kids. He has named the boat for his three grandchildren and the boat will be used by them on the St. John's river in Florida.
