The Marine Iron Works, station A, Chicago, are now running full in their new shops with entirely new and remodeled equipment and plant. The wisdom of greatly increasing their capacity is already being demon- strated, as every department of the work is overcrowded with orders. They have just closed a contract for a large amount of machinery for the Tabasco-Chiapas Trading & Transportation Co., one of the great com- mercial companies doing business in the tropics. Among other notable pieces of work is the complete equipment of a fine river steamer for the Zaragoza Mining Co., operating on the Magdalena river, in the United States of Colombia. They have also several steel boats under contract to be erected according to the ingenious plan of "knock-down" construction, which the Marine Iron Works have developed. The advance pages of their 1902 catalogue have been received. Besides very interesting data and illustrations of the engines that they build, this catalogue contains several pages descriptive of the "knock-down" method of building boats. How far afield the business of this company reaches is illustrated by the fact that they are at present doing work for Constantinople, for the Sas- katchewan, Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil, as well as all over the United 8 States. Position or Partnership. A ship and engine builder, with a thorough experience in all branches of the business, both theoretical and practical, and with a reputation that compares favorably with that of any ship builder in the country, is desir- ous of opening negotiations with persons anxious to engage the services of a strictly first-class man, either to start a new yard of the most advanced type, or with a view to developing an established plant along the lines of the most economical policy known to American ship building. Experi- enced in all types of steamships, including battleships, cruisers, torpedo boats, Atlantic liners, yachts, etc., and particularly equipped for the con- struction of cheap and economical freighters and tramp steamers. As an evidence of good faith I am willing to invest $20,000 with my services in a promising concern that will bear the strictest investigation. No small offers considered.
