Dismantled Hull of Canisteo Burned

Port Huron, Mich., Oct. 25.--(Special.) -- The dismantled hull of the former sand and gravel-carrying steamer Canister was towed out into the lake early to-day, set on fire and allowed to sink in deep water out of the way of navigation. The burning of the boat gave rise to rumours that a steamer was being destroyed by fire and lives were in danger. The coastguard crew responded to an alarm. The Canister was owned by United Fuel & Supply Co., Detroit. The owners though it best to burn the boat, which has not been in use for some time, instead of placing the abandoned hull in one of the many marine graveyards along the river.
