McSorley bearings. upon independent adjustable lifters that are guided in the cam shaft bracket that forms a lengthwise brace to the whole machine. This cam shaft, which is hardened and bearings ground, can with the bracket and lift. ers be removed independently of the rest of the machine. The cylinders, which are cast jp pairs, three in ail, are mounted on - bronze A_ frames, being supported about midway of the length of the bore. This construction permits of the engine being open and accessible to each and every individual part. The pistons are so arranged they can be taken out inside of two minutes each. The crank boxes are of the highest grade bronze, main bearings of pure babbit. The connecting rods are drop forged of I beam section. The piston pin is 134 in. diameter, turns in the ends and is clamped to the connecting rod in the center, thereby giving greater wearing surface. The oiling system is by a mechan- ical forced feed system of the McCord type with a separate feed to each main bearing and cylinder and re- quires no attention whatever, after set- ting, only to keep the reservoir full of oil. The fly wheel is on the after end with a-clutch bolted into a part of same. The thrust bearing is back of this and is a specially designed com- bination thrust and coupling because - of the very limited space in which it has to go. Bronze split rings are used for the thrust instead of ball This is done, so as to be able to take out the rings and renew them in case of wear, 'without being obliged to take out the shaft. The exhaust header is another of this machine's remarkable features, and is a contrivance, whereby the piping has been done away with, the inlet and exhaust all contained within one casting that is entirely water jacketed and has a passage of water leading direct from the pump passing through between the inlet gas and exhaust gas, thereby insuring uniform- 'ity of running under varying atmos- pheric conditions, and at the same time reducing the heat from the ex- haust. The water passes first through this header and then into each pair of cylinders directly around the ex- haust valves, coming out at the top in about the usual way and from here is led into the water jacketed exhaust pipe, which leads first up from the engine and then turns and goes down and through the side of the boat i such a manner as to avoid any POS sibility of water coming back into
