62 MEDIUM PRESSURE GATE. é VALVE. : For medium pressure steam or water service of all kinds the valve shown in the accompanying illustration is especially adapted, being designed by the makers, Jenkins Bros., New York, for a working pressure of 150 lbs., and tested to 500 Ibs. hydraulic pressure. The valve is of the double face, solid wedge type, the wedges being of cast iron faced with hard bronze rings and having grooves which slide smoothly on ribs in the body, preventing un- even wear of the faces or clattering when the valve is partly open. The body of the valve is of high grade # ' Tae Marine REVIEW cast iron, tapped and faced for Seats "at exactly the wedges, the seat rings being made of same angle as hard bronze and screwed to shoulders on the body. These seats can be easily removed for truing up or re- newal if necessary. Either inside screw, stationary spin- dles; or outside screw, rising spindles can' be supplied with the valves, the inside screws having spindles. of bronze and =the outside of. steel. Bronze spindles, if desired, can be fur- nished with the outside screw valves. If required, extension spindles, gearing and other fittings can be furnished with the valve. nee A flanged by-pass: of: special design, made with inside or outside screw and yoke to match the main valve is fur- nished, the use of by-passes being rec- ommended on valves of 8 in. and larger. The by-pass body and elbows are combined in a single casting of special design secured to the main valve by a 'single flange. Thus the number of joints required are reduced to a minimum, and the general ar- rangement is strong and compact. Engineers will appreciate the advan- tages of a valve which can be packed under pressure when wide open, no closing of the valve or shutting down of the steam line being necessary, as is possible with these gate valves, either stationary or rising spindle, The glands are made with a brass body screwed "into malleable iron flange, all parts of the valves being re- newable and thoroughly interchange- able. TRADE NOTES. The General Fireproofing Co., Youngs- town, will build. an addition to its factory 60 by 200 ft. This building will be de- voted to the manufacture of steel office furniture and filing devices, including steel sections or units, desks and tables. This furniture is finished to so closely resemble oak or mahogany that the dif- ference cannot be detected by sight alone. Its advantages over wood are obvious. The Norton Co., Worcester, Mass., has just issued a little "catalog helpful to all who grind, It, is a col- lection' of.
