WELIN QUADRANT DAVIT. A catalog of unusual beauty has just been issued by the Welin Quad- TAE Marine REvIEw that two new designs are incorporat- ed in the book, namely, "OG" size and the "Welin Davit." the Planet rant Davit Co. 17 Battery Place, The quadrant davit of the "06" size WELIN QUADRANT DAVIT SIZE 0° INSTALLED ON STEAMBOAT WICKHAM, New. York. . This catalog. is really a consists ofa simgle day't with 'the reproduction of the salient features quadrant of differential radii and of papers read by Axel Welin before the Nautical Society of Hamburg, the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the Franklin In- stitute of Philadelphia, and the tech- nical faculty of Stanford University. The book is printed upon stiple pa- per and is copiously illustrated both in line and wash drawings. In fact, sO sumptuous a catalog is rarely seen. The letter-press is in type- writer type with side headings in red, the monogram of the Weelin Quadrant Davit being used in place of the usual center column rule--alto- gether a very excellent specimen of the art of printing. Since the catalog went -to press during the present summer the com- pany has received orders from the Austrian Lloyd, the Norway-Mex'co Gulf line, Argo Steamship Co., North German Lloyd, the Panama Steam- ship Co., the Japanese government, and several others. It is observed placed into a slanting frame, thereby gaining 'outreach .and the. greatest leverage when most needed. At the same time it saves weight and trans- tb 33 verse deck space. This davit, which weighs complete only about 450 Ibs., is particularly adapted for tug boats and smaller steamboats which carry the lifeboats on top of the house and where it is necessary to get more than ordinary outreach on account of there being a gangway between the house and the railing. The Welin Planet Davit !s manufactured in sev- eral sizes for torpedo boats, yachts, and other light vessels where econ- omy of space is of pazamount impor- tance. ADJUSTABLE ELBOWS FOR VENTILATING DUCTS. The McCreery Engineering Co., To- ledo, O., has just issued a circular de- scribing the McCreery adjustable el- bow and shutter gate. The company has supplied these fittings in large numbers to the United States navy department for use on its warships. There are several hundred of them being used on the new steamer City of Cleveland. They are also exten- sively used in hotels and big restau- rants. These elbows are used as terminals on ventilating ducts to con- trol the direction and the volume of the a'r delivery. The universal feat- ure of these elbows enables them to be turned at will in any direction and so to remedy the disagreeable effects e'ther of seasonal changes in temper- ature or of a smoky or stuffy atmos- sphere. They make possible for habi- tation interior rooms and hallways by directing a current which will set dead air in motion, The Spedden Ship Building Co., Bal- timore, Md., has been awarded con- tract for repairing lightship No. 71, on azvbid of $5,566.
