Low-tension magneto ignition, and distributor, are fitted in connection with a special form of make and break gear in the cylinders. The consumption of fuel is very low, being about 0.7 pint of paraffine or pe- trol per brake horsepower per hour. The engines are designed with ample bearing surfaces, and are in every way suitable for heavy continuous service. The total weight per set is 70 cwts. Thornyeroit ®@ (oe, ig. of Southampton, England, have just completed the building of a Siamese revenue cruiser, named "Suriya Mon- thon." This vessel is of a type which is likely to become very useful where smuggling is rife. She is the second of her type built by Messrs Thornycroft, the first being the "Amapa"' for the Brazilian government. ; The particular duties of the "Suriya Monthon" will be the suppression of the existing practice of opium and fire arms smuggling which is carried on to a very great extent in Siam. In addition to this she will prove a very handy and fast dispatch-boat, and her seaworthi- 'TAE Marine REVIEW MOTOR: PITTED: TO <TENDER. The vessel which is here illustrated is 137 ft. jong. over all, 135 ft. on watet line, and 130 ft. between perpendiculars, by 18 ft. beam, 9 ft. 1 in. in depth, molded, with a draught of 6 ft. and carries on her forecastle a 6-pounder Hotchkiss quick firing gun. The hull is of Siezens-Martin bullet- proof steel, and has 14 water tight bulkheads, one only of which is fitted with a watertight door, the others be- ing intact. , The forward and aft decks are also watertight. These precautions against foundering are rendered very necessary by the numerous uncharted coral reefs abounding in the seas in which she will cruise.
