A graceful compliment was paid the great British ship building firm of Vickers, Son & Maxim, at Barrow-in- Furness, by Mr. Reginal McKenna, M. P., Forest Lord of the Adm"ralty, in connection with the launch of the. largest British warship on Feb. 22, The firm have built this ship which had a launching weight of 10,250 tons, or 1,000 tons more than any battleship previously launched. The ship was of the Vanguard type, but its predeces- sors were mostly 7,000-ton vessels. When launched the Vanguard was. already furnished with 80 per cent of the immense armor walls of the tur- et. The launching ceremony was pef- formed by Mrs. McKenna, the wife of the First Lord, on the occasion of a great public holiday, and the vessel was christened in the customary man- ner by the breaking of a bottle of champagne on the bow of vessel. Mr. McKenna, speaking on behalf of his wife, proposed the toast of "Success to the Great Firm of Vickers, Son & Maxim." The speaker continued that while their great dealings with Messrs. Vickers and one other great firm were those of buyers and sellers their rela- tions were far more cordial than the ordinary relations of commerce. The BRITISH
