The Patella, which has been built by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Rich- ardson, Ltd., Wallsend, for the Anglo- Saxon Petroleum Co., Ltd., London, under the superintendence of their marine department, was taken out to sea on Thursday, May 6, for her trial trip burning coal, her oil-fuel trial having previously taken place. This vessel, which is similar to the Conch, recently completed by the same builders for this company, is also fitted with all the latest im- provements in tank steamers, includ- ing Meyer's well known liquid-fuel burning system. The vessel is of the following di- mensions, viz.: 418 ft. overall, by 51 Ho) ih. bean. extreme, by 31. ft. "depth moulded, and will carry about 7,700 tons deadweight of oil and bunk- ers on a moderate draught of water at Loyds' summer freeboard and will take the highest class at Lloyds'. The propelling machinery, which -has been constructed by the Walls- end Slipway & Engineering Co., Ltd., consists of a set of triple expansion engines, with cylinders 26% in. 43 in. and 72 in, diameters, and 48 in. stroke, and three single-ended boilers working at a pressure of 180 lbs. per sq. in. On this trial the vessel attained a | speed of over 12% knots and gave every satisfaction to all concerned. Mr. J. C. Stephens, who represented the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co., Ltd., Mr. Crohan, of Messrs. Flannery, Baggallay & Johnson; Mr. C. Steph- -enson, from the builders' yard, and Mr. G. Campbell, from the Wallsend Slipway & Engineering Co. Ltd., were present. ~~ e The vessel proceeded to Port Ar- thur, Tex., to load her first cargo.
