REVIEW Daring 129 Steamer Recently Built on Puget Sound for Local Service Between Seattle and Tacoma was towed to Seattle where the ma- chinery was_ installed. She com- menced regular service early in April, 1909. The Daring operates between Se- attle and Tacoma, a distance of 30 miles, stopping at all way ports on both sides of the East "Pass. She was built for the same service as the steamer Vashonian, which was fully described in Tue Marine Review, By H. Cole Estep its work in a thoroughly satisfactory manner and any opinion as to which is the more suitable for the run is purely one of individual judgment. The types of the two boats afe quite different and a comparative study of their principal features is very interesting. The boats were de- signed for identical service and the comparison illustrates pointedly how widely the conceptions of different Hutton, Seattle, while the cabins were built and the steamer was finished by the owner at his private yard at Caledonia Beach, near Tacoma. The Daring is owned by Capt. Mathew McDowell, who also owns the well known steamer Defiance. The Daring was launched with considerable cere- mony on Thursday, Jan. 28, 1909. The Daring, while not so roomy or luxuriously furnished as the Vash- onian, is a little faster than her larger rival. The Daring is a more econom- ical boat to operate than the Vashoni- an, but on the other hand she has less capacity. Each boat is doing designers, who have not had oppor- tunity for collaboration, will vary. The accompanying table gives the principal dimensions of both steamers.
