The engines are a very handsome job and rather better finished than has become the custom in recent years. The auxiliary equipment is most com- plete. In addition to the stokehold ventilation provided by the fan for the draft system, which draws from the stokehold, the air being supplied by large down-comers in the stack casing giving a cool, comfortable fire room, there are two large fans pro- vided specially for fire-hold ventilation at times when the draft system is not Mm Operation, as in port; Fhe. draft fan can also draw from the engine room when desired. The usual ballast, bilge, feed and fresh water pumps are fitted; the electric lighting sys- tem is in duplicate amd a 5-ton refrigerating plant is also installed. In light trim, witha, draft of 18 5 in. ait and 5 ft. forward the dis- placement is 3,850 tons and the speed mith 4/00 1. HH. P., 1% knots, or 196 statute miles per hour. The displace- Ment at 16 ft mean draft is .6500 tons, with a block co-efficient of 0.633, which, it will be seen, gives very fine, easy lines. The corresponding speed is about 18 miles. The first-class cabin accommoda- tions include eight parlor state rooms, each with private bathroom, and 157 state rooms, of which 67 are three- passenger and 91 two-passenger rooms. Rating the' parlor rooms as two-passenger, the total accommoda- tion is therefore equal to 400 first- class passengers. The second-class accommodations provide for 75 pass- engers. The general arrangement of the cabins is clearly shown on deck plans. ; The parlors are finished im 1our oe different styles and the general finish throughout the saloons, drawing rooms, smoking rooms, etc. is of a high order and the aecorations in particular are in excellent taste.
