The Thermit Process permits of sternposts of steamships being welded without remov- ing them from the vessel, the result being that the vessel remains in drydock only two or three days and the repair is executed at a fraction of the cost of making the weld in any other manner. The process is equally valuable for welding rudder frames, shafts, anchors, gear wheels and other broken steel sections.
