300 Ore on Dock May 1 Ore held on Lake Erie docks on May 1 was slightly in excess of the balance on the corresponding date a year ago. Statistics gathered by THE MARINE Review from various dock managers at Lake Erie ports show that the amount of ore on Lake Erie docks May 1, was 5,681,085 gross tons, compared with a balance of 5,622,019 gross tons on May 1, 1918, an increase of 59,066 gross tons. The corresponding figures for 1917 and 1916 were 4,772,232 and 3,343,405 aroRs tons. The total tonnage for last month of 2,373,163, compared with the total for April, 1918, of 422,489 tons, shows an increase of 1,950,674 tons. The United States canal opened on April 10: while the Canadian canal opened two days later. Of the total freight carried in April of the present year, 2,089,965 tons were handled by the United States canal while 283,198 tons went through the Canadian canal.
