Sg HUUUUIUUUUUTC LULU HARLES G. DU BOIS has been elected president of the West- ern Electric Co., New York, to succeed H. B. THAYER, -resigned after 38 years of continuous service. Mr. Du Bois was born "in 1870. After graduating from Dart- - mouth college in 1891 he entered the employment of the Western Electric Co. as a clerk in the accounting de- partment. In 1896 he was. appointed chief clerk at the company's New York office:- In 1898 he was elected secretary of the company with offices in Chicago. Shortly after he assumed the duties of secretary, Mr. Du Bois was also ap- pointed supervisor of branch houses. In 1897 he was transferred from the Western Electric Co. to the American Telephone Co.' as comptroller. Shortly after the country became involved in the war, Mr. Du Bois went to Wash- ington to serve as comptroller for the American fred. Cross. On Oct. 1, 1918, he rejoined the Western Electric Co. ' as vice president, which office.he held until he was elected president. Mr. Thayer has assumed the duties of presi- dent of the American Telephone & Tele- graph Co.
