In running in on the range of NNW, it is necessary to remark, that this range is at a distance of 2 to 3 miles from the Lighthouse ; and as you approach it, haul off a little to the west- ward until abreast the Lighthouse, when you are all safe. 'The reef which sets off from the south point of the bay in a northerly direction, protects the harbor from southerly winds. To run into this harbor, bring the north point of the bay to bear N3W, and run well up to it and steer in WNW. The lead will guide you into this bay in 4 to 5 fathoms. Good holding ground in from 3 to 5 fathoms. Pilot Island light, fixed, varied by flashes, yates 14 miles, This Lighthouse is on Pilot Island, the south entrance to Green Bay, called Death's Door. The old Lighthouse stands on Plum Island. 'There is good anchorage directly opposite to Plum Island, in the bay of the peninsula, in 7 to 10 fathoms. The water directly opposite Plum Island Lighthouse, close in, is 5 to 15 fathoms, mud, and inshore of that, rock and boulders, but has no shelter.. Excel= lent holding ground between Plum Island and Detroit Island, in 5 to 6 fathoms, mud.. @ Rock Island jlehi fixed, visible 14 miles, on Rock Tia north side of entrance to Green Bay. Washington Harbor, 7 miles west of Rock Island, aces ters for the fishermen. Has a dock on each side of the bay; the water is deep, and the bay is open to. the NE. Knowland's. dock is on the east side of the bay, and Raney's on the west. Long Tail Point light, fixed, visible 10 miles, near the mouth of Fox River, head of Green Bay. Big Swamico River is 53 miles north of Long Tail Point. Has lumber mills (Sawyer & Gardner.) Vessels load to paar. Good holding ground in 24 to 3 fathoms.
