In running on this route to Penetanguishene, you leave a group of small islands, called the Western Islands, about 1} to 2 miles to the northward, and Hope Island, close to, to the southward. When past Hope Island, haul up SESE for the mainland, leaving the Giant's Tomb Island well to port to clear some rocks which lie off the SE end of the island; follow the shore round until nearly abreast of Pine Point; then haul over to port, keeping the islands best aboard until above the point; then haul up to the SW and run into the bay. tae It is necessary to take a pilot on first going into Penetangui- shene Harbor. In running through this channel, keep Hope Island to port, Chris- tian and Beckwith to starboard; and when past Beckwith Island, haul up for the mainland about ESE 6 miles, and run into Penetan- guishene as directed above from Hope Island. FROM COLLINGWOOD TO PENETANGUISHENE, LEAVING THE CHRISTIAN ISLANDS TO THE NORTHWARD. From Collingwood to Christian Island Lighthouse NNE3N 18 miles; thence run the main shore from point to point, at a distance of + to 1 mile, until abreast of the Giant's Tomb Island; then run in as directed above. SE from the Lighthouse is a patch of rocks off the 'mainland about 4 mile. The depth of water in this channel is from 17 to 18 feet, until well past the Lighthouse. To make a harbor, haul up into the bay to the northward, and come to in 3 fathoms water close in.
