'The water, inside, is from 9 to 10 feet, muddy bottom. It is rather difficult to get in with a loaded vessel, on account of a spit that makes off from the port side from the east end of the north pier. Vessels of light draft go in and load at Stod- dard's' mill, up a small creek in the bay, and load to four feet, and finish outside. Itis no harbor for heavy vessels, but vessels can find. a good lee from a northeaster, in 33 fathoms, in a line with the south pier, good holding ground. / , Port Stanley light, fixed, visible 9 miles, on the west pier at Port Stanley. The entrance to this harbor is very narrow; the piers run out straight. The depth of water varies from 9 to 11 feet. Port Burwell light, fixed, visible 9 miles, on the hill, to the eastward of the piers. | Beacon light, fixed, visible 5 miles, on the west pier, red. Depth of water from 9 to 10 feet. To run in, keep the west pier well aboard until inside, then take the middle, or come to the dock. Long Point light, fixed, visible 14 miles, on Long Point, a lead- ing mark for the lower end of Lake Erie. Good holding ground under the point, between the Lighthouse and Big Bluff, in 44 to 6 fathoms water, sandy clay.
