LAKE ERIE. 45 piers, N. N. W. Outer point of shore to the eastward, N. E. 3 E., 18 miles. 2 Cleveland Beacon-Light (West).--A fixed white light, visible 13} miles. Pyramidal wooden tower 40 feet high, blaek below and white above, square in plan; fog-signal house attached to front of beacon, and similarly painted. Elevated walk along pier to shore. On the outer end of west pier. Fog bell discon- tinued at this station. Outer point of shore to the westward, W.4 N., 154 miles. BLACK RIVER LIGHT-STATION,--A fixed white light, 4th order, visible 13 miles. Pyramidal wooden beacon 40 feet high, black below, white above, square in plan. Elevated walk along pier to shore. On the outer end of west pier, entrance to Black River harbor. The harbor works consist of two parallel piers 200 feet apart, direction northwest, connecting the mouth of Black river with the deep water in Lake Erie. There is a good channel 100 feet wide, least depth 163 feet from the highway bridge across Black river to deep water in the lake. Alongside west pier 12 feet of water at outer end, shoaling to about 9 feet near the middle; further in less water and rocky bottom close to the pier, Vermill- ion light-house, W. 8. W. 8 W., 11 miles. Outer point of shore to the eastward, E. N. E. 4+ E., 24 miles. VERMILLION LIGHT-STATION.--A fixed red light, 5th order, visible 114 miles. Gray octagonal tower 27 feet high. Elevated walk along pier to shore. Dome of lantern red. Near outer end of west pier, entrance to Vermillion harbor, Ohio. Width between piers, 125 feet; 12 feet of water can be carried through, in mid-channel, into the mouth of the river; sand and rock bottom; direction of piers, N. } W. Huron light-house, W. by S., 93 miles. HURON LIGHT-STATION.--A fixed white light, 4th order, visible 124 miles. Iron skeleton tower 30 feet high, black below and red above; lantern white, dome red. Elevated walk along pier to shore. On crib at outer end of west pier, entrance to Huron harbor, Ohio. The harbor improvements consist of two parallel piers running out into the lake in a northwest direction, 140 feet apart. There is a good wide channel with 15 feet of water. A bar is forming in the lake to the northwest of the piers. Cedar Point light, 93 miles. Outside buoy of Sandusky bay, N. W., 93 miles. Vermillion light-house, E. by N., 93 miles.
