White, square pyramidal tower, on a platform supported on piles; octagonal lantern. In 33 feet of water on Mamajuda shoal, about 600 feet N. 8° 13' HE. (N. 4 E.) from Mamajuda light-house. The light illuminates an are of 120 degrees lying between N. 81° 47' W. (W. 2 N.) and S. 21° 47' E. (S. by E. g E.), or 90 degrees to the eastward and 30 degrees to the westward of the range © line. The light-house range may be entered 600 yards above this buoy, and leads past the upper Fighting Island buoy, a little to the westward of mid channel. The range between this buoy and Mud Island Shoal buoy just clears the head of Grassy Island shoal. Grassy Island light-house (upper side of new structure), W. 48., 500 feet. © Ecorse Range Light (front).--A fixed red light of the sixth order, On the west side of the Detroit river, near Ecorse, Michigan, on what is known as Ecorse marsh. The structure is a square, white pyramidal tower, surmounted by an octagonal lantern with copper roof and surrounded by a balcony with black hand rail. Thefocal plane of the light is 28 feet above the mean level of the river. The tower stands on a platform supported on piles, in 384 feet of water, about 150: feet on the range line, from the contour of 18 feet depth in the river. Ecorse Range Light (rear),---A fixed red light of the sixth order.. Shown from the structure erected in the marsh about 550 feet N. 4 W. from the preceding, and about 160 feet from the shore line. Thestructure isa square, white pyramidal tower, surmounted by an octagonal lantern, with copper roof, and surrounded by a balcony with black hand rail. The focal plane of ihe light is 45 feet above the mean level of the river. The tower stands on a platform supported on piles in 24 feet of water. Each light will illuminate 135° of the horizon lying between, E. 8. E. + E. and S. W. by W. 2 W., or 674° to the eastward and 673° to the westward of the range line. These lights will form a range for running the main channel of Detroit river, intersecting the Mamajuda range at a point about 950 feet to the eastward of Grassy Island light (about 350 feet to the eastward of the curve of 18 feet depth abreast of Grassy Island light. : : Fighting Island.--Red spar buoy in 114 feet of water. Marks the elbow of the flats at the upper end of Fighting island. It stands in soft bottom, with deep water close-to. This buoy, in range with Grassy Island light-house, just clears the flat between the buoy and the head of Fighting island. Grassy Island light-house (new structure), 8. by W. + W., 1,600 yards. : : Mud Island Shoal.--Black spar buoy in 19 feet of water. Stands in sandy bottom at the southeast point of Mud Island shoal, and marks the west side of main channel, and north side of eastern entrance to a channel between Mud Island and Grassy Island shoals.
