Marks the northeast point of a rocky shoal on the south side of the channel south of the Kelley and Bass islands. The shoal stretches towards and half way to Mouse island, and is 500 yards wide; least water on it 12 feet near the buoy, a channel 666 yards wide, between the shoal and Mouse island; the latter and the headland southwest of it are bold. Northwest side of Mouse island, S. W. by W. 4% W., 1% miles. Green island light-house, N. W. % W., 414 miles. Starve Island Reef.--Red gas buoy, No. 4, showing a fixed white light, 10 seconds, eclipsed 10 seconds, in 14 feet of water. Marks the southwest point of a reef, 400 feet in diameter, lying on the north side of channel, very near the track of vessels bound through; exactly on range of Green -- island light-house, and southwest point of South Bass island. When Green island can be seen clear of South Bass island, vessels are clear of the shoal to southward; least water on reef, 11 feet. Two-thirds way from this reef to Starve island, is a rocky patch, with 11 feet of water on it. A reef extends from South Bass island to Starve island, leaving a narrow channel between. Twelve feet of water within 30 feet of buoy to the southward and eastward. East end Mouse island, S. S. W. 4% W., 1% miles. South Bass island light-house, N. W. % W., 134 milés. Starve island. N. by W. 34 W., 1 mile. "a7 Mouse Island Reef.--Black, 3rd class can buoy No. 38, in 16 feet of water. Marks the north side of a small reef, 1% miles north of Mouse island: least water on reef, 12 feet. Shoalest water S. W. by W. 'rom buoy, about 150 yards. Starve Island Reef Gas Buoy, EN. F 1 nearly .1 mile. Moore Point, S. S. W. % W., tearly 234 miles. Greece island light-house, N. W. 7% N., 3% miles. SOUTH BASS ISLAND LIGHT-STATION,--A fixed red light, 4th order, lantern black. Square red brick tower projecting from the S. W. corner of a square, two-story red brick dwelling with slated roof, on the southwesterly point of South Bass island, Ohio. In approaching from the eastward, keeping Green island light open to the southward of this - light, will guide clear of the southerly extremity of Starve island reef. -.The light illuminates 360° of the horizon, but is not visible from the lake _ between the bearings S. 5% E., and W.
