124 GEORGIAN BAY. CHRISTIAN. ISLAND LIGHT-STATION.--A fixed white light, 4th order, visible 15 miles. White, circular tower, 60. feet high. On the south- east end of island, about 2 miles from mainland.. Nottawasaga light. §. S. W., 18% miles. A 10-foot spot bears S. by E. % E., 15 miles. This shoal is 1 mile from mainland, and nearly in range of Point Cockburn. There is good anchorage in the bay north of the light. Keep about mid- channel. Depth of water, 13 to 15 feet. HOPE ISLAND LIGHT-STATION.--A revolving white light, inter- val of revolution 1 minute, visible 12 miles. White, square, wood tower, with dwelling attached. On northeast point of island. Gin Rock light, E. by S. % S., 14% miles. The most westerly of the Western islands; N. W. 4% W., 13% miles. The shores of the island are rocky, and should not be approached on the north side nearer than three-fourths of a mile. GIANT'S TOMB LIGHT-STATION.--Fixed white light, 7th order, visible 11 miles. Light, 40 feet above lake level. Square, wooden tower, with dwelling attached, painted white, the tower surmounted by an iron lantern painted red. The height of the building, from its base to the vane on the lantern, is 37 feet. On the southern extremity of Giant's Tomb island, in the southeast portion of the Georgian bay. BREBEUF FRONT RANGE LIGHT-STATION.--Fixed white light, visible 11 miles. White, square, wood tower, red iron lantern. On N. end of Brebeuf island. Rear Light.--Fixed white light, visible 11 miles. White, square, wood tower, with red roof. On W. shore of Beansoleil island, 2,400 feet E. % S. from front light. The lights in range bearing E. % %. lead in from outside Bennett bank to alignment of Middle Point range. Middle Point Front Range Lifht.--Fixed white light, 7th order, visible 10 miles. White, square, wood tower, on cribwork pier; lantern red. On beach 3,600 feet S. E. 7% E. from Sucker Creek point. Rear Light.--Fixed white, 7th order, visible 11 miles. White, square wood tower; lantern red; light 41 feet above lake level. On beach, 3,000 feet S. by E. % E. from front light. These two lights in one lead in, S. 17° E., from the intersection with the alignment of the Brebeuf range lights to within half a mile of the front tower, where the lights should be opened on the starboard hand. The shore here is bold and may be kept close aboard until Midland point is rounded. MIDLAND RANGE LIGHTS.--Two range lights, established by the Government of Canada in the town of Midland, Georgian bay, Ontario, have been put in operation for the first time. The lights are fixed red incandescent lights shown from lamps on electric light poles, on the hill in the southwest part of the town. The front light is elevated 30 feet above the ground, and 150 feet above the water level of the harbor. The front pole stands on the hillside, 100 feet north of Ottawa street, between Seventh and Eighth streets. The back range light stands on Ottawa street, 1,320 feet S. 56° W. from the front light. The light is elevated 30 feet above the ground and 190 feet above the water level of the harbor. The two lights in one, bearing S. 56° W., lead in from Midland point up to the wharves in the harbor, clear to the southeastward of Midland bay shoal. i Buoyage of the Approaches to Midland Harbor.--During the past season four of the principal buoys in the approaches to Midland harbor, Georgian bay, Ontario, were replaced by extra large spar buoys. On the opening of navigation this year the following seven spar buoys will be placed and maintained: : 2. Ao extra large red buoy off Lottie Wolf rock, moored in 22: feet of water, N. 27° W., one mile from Hope island light-house, and N. 18° W. 1,200 feet from the shoalest spot of 9 feet. ,
